YOUNG COUPLES FAIL TO REGISTER MARRIAGES. At least 200 people failed to register marriages in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong province, on Tuesday, during the traditional Mid-Autumn Festival.
Due to arriving at the city's marriage registration offices late, the quotas for marriage for the day had all been used.
To successfully register for marriage certificates,
some would be brides and bridegrooms arrived at local marriage registration offices as early as 5 am on Tuesday, four hours before they opened.
A total of 800 couples registered to marry on
Tuesday, up eight times compared with an ordinary day.
Many local residents thought the traditional Chinese festival of family reunion could compete
with Chinese Valentine's Day as the luckiest day to get married.

BEAR BITES THE HAND THAT FEEDS.A tipsy visitor to a zoo was badly injured trying to hand feed a caged bear. The man from Shandong Province was freed from the bears grasp after
keepers rushed to help. The incident took place at the People's Park Zoo in Yingkou, Liaoning Province.
Zoo officials branded the man's actions foolish in
the extreme. He had ignored warning signs not to feed the animals or reach into their cages. "If you ignore the safety warnings you must take full responsibility for the consequences" said a zoo
official.

has been caught in Beijing.
Led by Wang Li, the nine man gang focused on stealing the bags of women walking alone at night in Beijing.
The would often grab bags through car windows
and then do a runner. Some wailing victims were knocked down on road and injured.
They have attacked 60 women in the past three months. The gang was caught recently in a bank

ROLE REVERSAL FOR MODERN COCKEREL.
A cockerel took on the role of a mother hen to look after more than 10 chicks, report Guangzhou Daily.
Abandoned by their mother, the newly hatched chicks were left to fend for themselves. But almost immediately the cock took over, feeding the chicks with worms it gathered, sheltering them under
its wings when it rained and latterly teaching them to forage for food themselves.
The maternal instincts of the cock which continued for three months, astonished its farmer owner in Xinyi
County in Western Guangdong.

DRIVER SUED FOR RUNNING OVER CORPSE.
A van driver who ran over a dead body has been ordered to pay 5,000 Yuan (US$607) compensation to the corpse's family.
The bizarre lawsuit is, not surprisingly, the first of its kind in the Guangdong Court. It took two public hearing before it ruled the driver had breached his
duty of care and was, therefore, liable to pay damages.
It was last February that the driver, surnamed Lu, was driving through Dongguan city when he ran over
the body of a man who had earlier been knocked down and killed.
Family members of the dead man immediately filed a lawsuit against Lu demanding compensation for the damage his vehicle caused.

A man set fire to hair and damaged his eardrum trying to get wax out with a matchstick.
The freak accident happened as the man absent-mindedly twiddled a match in ear as he
reminisced with old friends at a National Day reunion.
Suddenly the man, surnamed Yang, cried out in pain amid the smell of burning.
The matchstick had caught light, badly damaging his
eardrum and singeing his hair.
The incident took place in Taikang County, Henan province.

DISHONEST SUITOR'S STOLEN GIFT BACKFIRES.
A would be suitor's attempt to buy his way into the affections of his girlfriend's family backfired
disastrously.
With little cash to pay for a gift, the jobless young man turned to crime. After selecting what he considered was a soft target, an elderly man, he swiped his cellphone.
But the young thief, surnamed Zhang, could not have chosen a worse victim.
By an extraordinary coincidence the victim was his girlfriend's father. And when she presented her
father with a cellphone as a birthday gift with compliments of her boyfriend, he immediately recognized it.
Zhang, of Nong'an, Jilin Province, is currently
languishing in custody awaiting trial, minus a girlfriend.
