HONG KONG WOMEN LOOK OVERSEAS FOR HUSBANDS
A survey by the Hong kong
Special Administrative Region's government shows that the population of marriage-age males is much smaller than that of females in the special administrative region, making it
harder for local women to find suitable spouses.
The research also found that many men prefer to marry women with lower education levels than themselves.
Meanwhile, more Hong kong men have been marrying mainland women. One third of the marriages registered in Hong Kong last year were with mainlanders.

TINY TRAIN FOR FLOWER FESTIVAL VISITORS
Visitors to last Saturday's camellia festival in Hsinchu of Taiwan Province, were taken around the park in a mini-train.
The tiny train, standing at just one fourteenth of normal trains, runs on coal fuel and was made years ago by a factory affiliated to the Taiwan Chiao Tung University.
Running at 15 kilometres per hour, the train can carry just a dozen adults.

TEENS SHOW FLAIR FOR WITH TECH GARBAGE
Taiwan teenagers changed old computer components into technology products in a show of
reativity at a contest organized by the Taiwan educational authorities. The participants were students from the island's senior middle schools.
They reassembled the disposed computer components into various machines, such as a fire-fighting exhaust fan, a drill and a smoke detector.

DRIVER TRIED TO HIDE MISSING ARM
A man surnamed Zhang who continued to drive
despite having lost his right arm in a past accident, was finally caught out last week. Police discovered his disability when he crashed into another car.
It turned out that Zhang did not even have a driving licence. The police have inpounded his car.

WOMAN'S TSUNAMI RESCUE LANDS HER IN COURT
The law does have a long arm. A Hong
Kong woman who is now in custody, began her saga of fraud in 2003. Last year's tsunami proved her nemesis.
Liang Huiqi, a mother of two daughter, reported to the local
government in 2003 that her husband had disappeared and applied successfully for the public welfare subsidy for a single-parent family.
However, a picture showing Liang
and her husband kissing after their rescue in last December's tsunami in South Asia, was widely reported by media. This uncovered their Thailand travel and intimate
relationship. Hong Kong police later investigated and found that Liang and her husband maintained close contact even after she applied for the relief.

TEEN STUDENT TRACED IN VOCATIONAL SCHOOL BLAST
A small explosion in a vocational centre of Zhejiang
Province two weeks ago, has been traced to a 17-year-old student who wanted to show off.
Students were reviewing their homework in the classroom as usual on November 14, when
suddenly there was a bang. The platform in the classroom was blown to pieces and the whole room was filled with the smell of petrol. The screaming
students were evacuated quickly and no one was injured.
Local police traced the incident to the teenager surnamed Wang, who was arrested last week.

ONE KILLED IN FIGHT OVER SENSATIONAL SMS
The ubiquitous SMS has resulted in a tragedy in Shanghai. Zhu Yi reportedly sent porn messages to the wife of his friend Xu, provoking his anger.
One day in April, Xu invited Zhu to meet him and talk things over. But three of Xu's friends ambushed Zhu and as they beat him, he drew out his knife in self-defence.
In the ensuing fight, one of Xu's friends surnamed Shen was stabbed to death.
Zhu made no attempt to escape and confessed to the police. Last Thursday, a local court sentenced
him to life imprisonment.

RUNAWAY TIBETAN ANTELOPE CAUGHT
A Tibetan antelope that was running loose in Shiquan County in Shaanxi Province was caught last Thursday and sent to a local animal centre, after
being spotted by people on the street.
The animal was found sick and is now being cared for by local vets.
